It's not harder....It's just different

How often have we heard the dreaded words from other moms or even said them ourselves to newer moms...."It only gets harder".  Can we all make a vow to stop doing this to our allies in the motherhood game?  True,  there are parts of raising a 7, 5, and 3 year old that are harder than raising a 4, 2, and newborn.  True, there will be parts of raising teenagers (gulp) that will be way more challenging than raising littles.  I can only add to the conversation the things that I know from my short 7 years as "mom".   I would like to share the things I LOVE about the age of my kids.

Age 3:  I sleep.  True story.  I get a minimum of 8 hours of sleep at night.  My very favorite thing of this age....The lispy speech.  The way words come out of a three year old's mouth is the most adorable thing in the world.  I could listen to three year olds talk for days.  No more diapers!  Sure you still have to do some bottom wiping, but to be diaper free,  bliss!  The imagination that comes to the foreground at this age is awesome.  The world a 3 year old lives in is a magical one.

Age 5: The pace at which a 5 year old learns is impressive and humbling:  Numbers, alphabet, how to make friends,  how to be yourself,  how to deal with anger,  how to tell a joke, how to play a sport or two, the list goes on.  5 year olds are starting to pick their own interests and the things they want to try.  Their personalities come out in their truest and purest form.   They dress themselves.  The time that you use to spend dressing and putting on shoes for these little individuals can now go to other things.  Important things like brushing your hair or putting on deodorant.

Age 7:  The conversations!  We can talk about our day, our friends, the highs and the lows. When you go to watch a 7 year olds sport event you get to watch a real game.  Their skill level is at a point where it is now enjoyable.  You can play games with 7 year olds.  Your play time with these guys is no longer limited to imaginary play (don't get me wrong I love imaginary play, in short spurts).  You can play card games, board games, and yard games.  We have now hit a point in our life where I am trying to talk my 7 year old into playing "just one more game".

Now, onto some photos of the 7, 5, and 3 year old in my life!

Liesel now unloads the dishwasher...another perk of having a 5 year old.

Bath Photo.  They are starting to get to big to pull this off.

This puppy.  I love our new addition so much.  He won't fit under this table too much longer.

Valentines Day fun

One of my very favorite times of the week: weekend breakfasts on the deck.

Nap time.  Yes, Liesel is napping with gloves.

How can you say "no" to this face

Maddox is pretty proud of the fact that he can drive the tractor by himself.

Those ears

This week was spring break.  I had to work but my wonderful mother in law and daycare mom made sure that Milo, Liesel, and Maddox had a great spring break.  They went swimming, to the zoo, to Jump City, dyed Easter eggs, and spent lots of time with their buddies.  I am so lucky to have so many people love our kids.  It takes a village.

Pool time with Nana

Check out this rowdy crew.  So sad I missed it, but love seeing all these smiling faces!
