Aschermanns

Well the summer is coming to an end. The kids go back to school next week. There are mixed emotions. They are all excited to get back and see their friends. There are some nerves too. All of Milo's best buddies are in another class. Liesel hasn't found any of her friends who are in her class. Maddox's core group from last year are all moving on to Kindergarten. I have been giving them pep talks about how it is so good to make new friends and challenge yourself. Encouraging them to be brave and open minded. As I am giving these speeches I can't help but think about how much more adaptable and courageous kids generally are than adults. I mean, how often do we as adults enter an environment where we don't know anyone and have to learn new skills and risk looking silly. It is hard for us to get out of our own heads, set aside our egos, and be vulnerable, but we ask our kids to do it all the time. Anytime they try a new hobby, sport, or every year when we send them to a new classroom. These little humans are so impressive. I hope to be more like them.

I am currently signed up for three golf tournaments in August. I am an awful golfer, but feel that with work events it is important that I make an effort to learn the game well enough to play a scramble. I am very nervous to play with people other than my family because I don't want to look "stupid". I have also signed up to be on the PTSA board. I don't know anyone on the board and to be honest I am not sure I have the right skill set for it. With both of these items I am trying to give myself the same pep talk I give to my kids. It turns out they listen to me better than I listen to myself.
