A New Year, A New House, A New Appreciation

I'm here.  It is THIS moment that I have waited for: coffee in hand,  looking out the windows of my new house,  the kids playing, the smell of bacon from this morning's breakfast.  It is great, it is overwhelming, it is surreal. Scott and I bought "The Farm" property in 2012.  Since then I have had a love-hate relationship with it.  I have always loved the views, the garden, the berries, the chickens, the cows, the knowledge my kids have gained regarding food and the food chain.  I hated changing baby diapers and cleaning up toddlers amidst dust and mud and limited running water.  I hated the Saturday and Sunday mornings when Scott would say I have to work at the farm all weekend.  I began hating packing and unpacking lunches for every weekend meal.  Well, guess what,  we now have  a kitchen for making meals, showers for cleaning up, and beds for tired toddlers all right here, and when Dad says he needs to work on the farm all weekend, it means he will be just outside and we can help him for as long as we want.  And when we are done we can head inside with no packing up, wiping down, and transporting dirty tired toddlers.  I now have nothing but love for this place.

A few months ago, Scott and I were asked if we would do this again.  We both said "No". We sold our condo three years ago, lived in a rental, and then moved into Scott's parents' basement.  It has been a very long three years.  As expected, the construction was behind schedule, over budget and exhausting.  I'd like to say we handled it with grace, but the truth is we handled it like parents of three small children with full time jobs and a limited amount of patience.  I eventually checked out of the house decisions (sorry Scott),  Scott's insomnia was taken to a new level,  and we both yelled more than we care to admit.  But now after spending only a month in our new home I believe we are both starting to change our minds.  I mean come on,  of course we would do it again!  We built our dream home, on our dream property.  It is my hope that our family will take away as much love from this place as we have put into it.    Hopefully this home will be the venue of many birthday parties, some graduation parties (gulp), and maybe even a wedding (double gulp).  Of course we would do it again!
